Edinburgh

The capital city of Scotland, Edinburgh is built on and around seven hills situated on the east side of the Scottish lowlands just to the south of the Firth of Forth. To the west of Edinburgh is village of South Queensferry and the two famous bridges, the Forth Rail bridge and Forth Road bridge.

Edinburgh is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in the World, and is one of the most desirable places to live in the UK. Becaused of its strong intellectual history and its uniquely styled buildings, it is often referred to as the ‘Athens of the North’ - a description let down only by the fact that we lack the fine weather of the ‘other’ Athens.

Although famed for its festivals of culture, Edinburgh is also proud to boast of a multitude of permanent centres of culture, having many art galleries, cinemas and concert halls. If culture isn’t your thing, you can take advantage of the many sports centres, pubs, bars, restaurants and some of the best shopping in Europe.

For those with a literary bent, Edinburgh has given birth to Harry Potter (J K Rowling wrote the first book in Edinburgh), Robert Louis Stevenson’s Jekyll and Hyde, and even the famous fictional detective Inspector Rebus (created by Ian Rankin)
